I've read parts of this thread over the past few days. Some of my comments pertain to older topics, some newer. IÆm too lazy to quote people for context!
I think there are some valid points on all sides. There needs to be some ingame way to determine if an application is an alt of a pirate/griefer/spy. It won't stop a person from creating a second account to feel out new marks, but it's a step in the right direction. I think the use of alts is a means to circumvent the mechanics of the game. A real challenge would be to convince the corp that your pirate character has turned a new leaf, and then betray them! That would be fun to watch.
I'd also like to say that paranoia runs rampant in this game. Anonymous Ego's continuously surprise me. Not everybody is after you!! Just sit back and have fun.
Most Corp theft involves players who have been members for a longtime, gain access to assets, and then have a significant difference of opinion compared to other corp officers. My first account (Thaiden) was as a member of EV when they were part of SA and then UNICOR. You think EVÆs BPOÆs were stolen by a newb player? Nope, Xaar was a trusted member of the corp. Hell, he was a trusted member of the EVE community. The other angle is that some peopleÆs egos direct their actions. When a corp gets influential enough, people target that corp because they want to be known. Saw that happen when I was in EVER as well. Anonymous behavior is something that always provides surprises (not always positive).
Personally, I would have taken the position that this is an opportunity to get involved in the politics of the game. Enjoy the moment even if it is not in line with your short-term goals or vision. In a way, it mimics life.
I guess the main theme of my thread is à.
EVE is a game that is player driven. There is a fair amount of freedom regarding how we approach the game. Griefers, PvPÆers, Carebears all bring something to the table. Without the conflict between the warring play styles, there would be no drama à no storyline à no EVE. I for one am grateful for the challenges that different opinions and play styles bring to my EVE experience.
